SpaceX has selected Qualcomm to supply the network technology behind Starlink Mobile's planned nationwide terrestrial 5G network in the United States, according to CNBC and a joint announcement from the two companies on November 4, 2026. The agreement pairs Qualcomm's chip and software platforms with SpaceX's satellite-to-phone ambitions, but key financial details remain undisclosed, and the deal does not resolve separate, unconfirmed reports that SpaceX is pursuing EchoStar's Boost Mobile.

What the deal covers

Cellular towers with antenna equipment stretching across a dusk landscape, representing a large-scale terrestrial network buildout.
Qualcomm will supply the radio and baseband technology for a planned nationwide network of tens of thousands of cell sites, with deployment set to begin in 2027.

Qualcomm and SpaceX announced a collaboration in which the San Diego-based chipmaker will power Starlink Mobile's nationwide terrestrial 5G network in the U.S., according to Seeking Alpha. SpaceX plans for U.S. nationwide deployment to begin in 2027, with tens of thousands of sites planned over the multi-year agreement, per Qualcomm's own posted announcement. CNBC reported that while SpaceX plans to use Qualcomm's technology to establish tens of thousands of new cell sites, it has not announced partners among cell tower companies or said how many new towers will ultimately be required, leaving the physical buildout plan incomplete.

On the technology side, the network will run on Qualcomm's Dragonwing QRU100 and QDU100 platforms alongside commercial-grade Layer 1 software, combining high-capacity Massive MIMO radio and baseband technology with power-efficient processing to support cellular base station deployment at scale, according to Qualcomm's posted announcement. Qualcomm also said Starlink Mobile will use Massive MIMO radio units with 64 transmit and 64 receive paths, known as 64T64R, designed to improve coverage, capacity and spectral efficiency. Yahoo Finance Canada reported the same 64T64R configuration, describing it as bringing advanced antenna capabilities to Starlink Mobile's terrestrial network.

Financial terms left undisclosed

Neither company has disclosed the financial terms of the multiyear deal, CNBC reported. Shattered.io likewise noted that financial terms were not disclosed, cautioning that any contract value circulating publicly should be treated as unconfirmed. Qualcomm characterized the agreement as its biggest 5G deal to date, per shattered.io's reporting, though no dollar figure accompanied that characterization. Shattered.io also noted that how much revenue the deal will ultimately bring Qualcomm is unknown because contract terms are private, meaning analysts will need to wait for Qualcomm's own earnings commentary to size the financial impact.

How this fits with the Boost Mobile talks

The Qualcomm announcement arrived days after the Washington Post reported that SpaceX is in talks to acquire EchoStar's Boost Mobile, according to CNBC's reporting on that earlier story. Shattered.io was explicit that the Qualcomm hardware-supply agreement covers terrestrial network equipment only and does not close out the separately reported Boost Mobile talks, noting that those talks had so far produced no deal. Shattered.io also flagged that no company statement describes Starlink Mobile as becoming a "fourth" major U.S. wireless carrier, calling that label unconfirmed and noting that a radio supply agreement alone does not make a carrier; carrier status would turn on spectrum, subscribers, core network, plans and regulatory standing, none of which the Qualcomm announcement addresses. Bottom line, and as interpretation tied to the reported facts above: the confirmed element here is a multi-year equipment and software supply relationship with deployment slated to begin in 2027, while the revenue scale, tower partners and total site count all remain unquantified, per CNBC and shattered.io.
