Western Digital Corporation reported fiscal first-quarter 2027 revenue of $4,381 million for the period ended October 2, 2026, up 55% from $2,818 million a year earlier and up 17% from the prior quarter's $3,747 million, according to the company's earnings release. The board also raised the quarterly cash dividend 17% to $0.175 per share, payable December 17, 2026 to shareholders of record as of December 4, 2026. Western Digital guided for second-quarter revenue of approximately $5.1 billion, continuing the sequential growth trend disclosed in the release.

Margins widened alongside the revenue gain

Four key financial metrics from Western Digital's fiscal Q1 2027 results: revenue, margins, operating income and dividend.
Figures from Western Digital's fiscal first-quarter 2027 earnings release (period ended October 2, 2026).

The company's non-GAAP gross margin expanded to 58.1% and its non-GAAP operating margin to 49.1%, which Western Digital said drove a 161% year-over-year increase in non-GAAP earnings per share. On a GAAP basis, operating income rose 158% year over year to $2,046 million, up from $792 million a year earlier and 31% higher than the prior quarter's $1,563 million. GAAP operating margin reached 46.7%, an increase of 1,860 basis points from a year ago and 500 basis points sequentially.

Western Digital provides forward guidance only on a non-GAAP basis. The company said in its release that certain information needed to reconcile that guidance to GAAP figures is difficult to estimate or quantify with certainty given its dependence on future events outside the company's control.

Management commentary on demand and pricing

CEO Irving Tan said fiscal 2027 is "off to a strong start, with results exceeding expectations, driven by robust customer demand and disciplined execution." He added that as the company deepens "our customer relationships, broaden[s] the customer base to new areas of the market, and extend[s] our visibility into future demand, we are building an increasingly durable foundation for long-term value creation."

CFO Kris Sennesael attributed the quarter's results to "robust exabyte growth and improved pricing," calling it "another quarter of strong financial performance." That is the only pricing commentary included in the release, and the company did not break out how much of its revenue growth, or its guidance for the coming quarter, stems from higher prices versus higher shipped capacity. Readers should treat the exabyte-growth-and-pricing framing as a general description of demand rather than a quantified split between volume and price.

What the release does and does not disclose

Western Digital describes itself as building storage infrastructure for what it calls the AI-driven data economy, saying it partners with major hyperscalers, cloud service providers and enterprises. The company's risk-factor disclosures reference the concentration of its revenue in the Cloud end market and among top customers, its dependence on a limited number of qualified suppliers, and the potential impact of long-term agreements. However, the release itself does not disclose the terms, existence or scale of any specific long-term supply agreements or customer prepayments tied to the quarter's results, so those risk-factor references should not be read as confirmation that such arrangements are currently in place at a material level.

The release likewise does not include capital expenditure figures or multi-year spending plans, nor does it address share-price reaction, analyst rating changes or price-target revisions. Those items fall outside the company's own disclosure and are not addressed here.

A look at the dividend math

Based on the company's stated 17% dividend increase to $0.175 per share, the prior quarterly dividend appears to have been approximately $0.15 per share ($0.175 divided by 1.17, which equals roughly $0.1496). This is our calculation derived from the figures Western Digital disclosed, not a separately stated figure in the release.

Bottom Line

Western Digital's fiscal first-quarter results show a company posting rapid year-over-year revenue growth alongside expanding margins, a sequential increase in guidance to roughly $5.1 billion, and a meaningfully higher dividend. Management credited exabyte growth and improved pricing without quantifying either factor's contribution, and the release left unaddressed several details, including capital spending plans, specific customer supply arrangements, and the market's trading reaction, that would be needed to form a fuller picture of the company's near-term trajectory.
