Super Micro Computer sharply raised its preliminary revenue and gross-margin guidance for the fiscal first quarter, telling investors on Tuesday it now expects sales of $18.5 billion to $19.5 billion, up from a prior forecast of $14.5 billion to $15.5 billion, according to wmbdradio.com. The company also lifted its gross-margin estimate to a range of 12.0% to 12.5% from 10.4% to 10.8%, the outlet reported, citing "customer and product mix" rather than pricing or component availability as the driver.

The update is preliminary and unaudited. Super Micro included no executive quote and no earnings-per-share guidance, and the company said its auditor "has not audited, reviewed, compiled or performed any procedures" on the figures, according to 247wallst.com, which also reported that actual results "may differ materially." The company gave no updated full-year outlook and did not disclose backlog or order figures alongside the revised estimates, aichatdaily.com reported. Complete first-quarter results are due November 3 at 5:00 p.m. Eastern, per the same report.

How the new numbers compare

Bar chart comparing Super Micro's new $18.5–$19.5 billion revenue guidance to its prior $14.5–$15.5 billion guidance and the $15.23 billion LSEG analyst average estimate.
Fiscal Q1 FY2027 revenue guidance vs. prior guidance vs. analyst consensus, per wmbdradio.com and 247wallst.com's calculations.

The new $19 billion revenue midpoint sits 26.7% above the prior $15 billion midpoint, a comparison 247wallst.com calculated, and about 24.8% above the LSEG average analyst estimate of $15.23 billion. The new low end of $18.5 billion still beats the old high end of $15.5 billion by 19.4%, according to the same outlet's math. On gross margin, the new 12.0%-12.5% range tops the 10.15% gross margin that analysts surveyed by Reuters had expected, 247wallst.com reported, and each percentage point of margin is worth roughly $190 million of gross profit at the revenue midpoint, by the outlet's calculation.

For scale, 247wallst.com noted Super Micro booked $5.02 billion in revenue in the same quarter a year earlier and $12.68 billion in its largest recent quarter, the one ended December 31, 2025. Measured against that December quarter, the new $19 billion guidance midpoint would be roughly $6.32 billion higher, an increase of about 50%, based on our calculation using the midpoint of the new range and the December-quarter figure reported by 247wallst.com (19.0 minus 12.68 equals 6.32; 6.32 divided by 12.68 equals 49.8%).

Why margins may be improving

Super Micro's margin history has been volatile. Fourth-quarter fiscal 2026 gross margin rebounded to 17.5% from 9.5% a year earlier, which finance.yahoo.com attributed to the company's own statement about a richer mix of enterprise customers and broader adoption of its server architecture. Yet in August, management had cautioned that high-volume GPU business generally carries lower margins, and 247wallst.com reported that a single customer accounted for 28% of fiscal 2026 revenue. Taken together, those disclosures suggest, as an interpretation of the reported figures rather than a company explanation, that the durability of the margin gain depends on mix: the new guidance again frames the improvement around customer and product mix rather than pricing power or easier component sourcing, leaving open what happens once GPU-heavy, high-volume orders scale further.

Market reaction and the read-through to peers

Shares jumped on the update. wmbdradio.com reported an 11.3% after-hours gain, and CNBC's premarket roundup said Super Micro rallied 12% ahead of the open. Server rivals Dell and HPE and chip supplier Nvidia also moved on the news: wmbdradio.com reported Dell and HPE gained between 3.5% and 4.9% after hours and Nvidia rose 1.5%, while CNBC's premarket figures showed Dell up 5.5% and HPE up 4.5%.

The raise landed after a rough week for AI-exposed stocks. 247wallst.com reported Super Micro fell 16.89% from October 13 to October 20, closing at $32.47 for a market value of $21.33 billion, down 41.01% over the past year and still well below its 52-week high of $56.60. wmbdradio.com tied that selloff to CoreWeave's stock and bond slide and to concerns that heavily indebted AI infrastructure operators could take longer than expected to generate returns, while also reporting that Microsoft, Google, Amazon and Meta are expected to spend more than $700 billion on AI infrastructure this year.

Open questions on orders, cash and oversight

The company's July preliminary update had already disclosed new orders exceeding $60 billion during the June quarter, a figure finance.yahoo.com cited in August as evidence of the demand underlying Super Micro's fiscal fourth-quarter results. One analysis, from 247wallst.com, offered an interpretation of the timing of the latest raise: "The raise suggests that contracts deferred out of the June quarter showed up when management said they would." That is framed by the outlet as analysis, not a confirmed company explanation, since Super Micro's release did not disclose backlog or order detail alongside the new figures.

Balance-sheet questions remain unresolved. 247wallst.com reported that fiscal 2026 operating cash flow was negative $6.81 billion because of an inventory build, and that, as of the August report, a board review of transactions tied to export-control issues was still open, a point also noted by finance.yahoo.com describing the company's own disclosure of an independent board review. The guidance update also follows the appointment of former Western Digital executive Mark Long as chief financial officer, a hire wmbdradio.com and 247wallst.com both noted came nearly two years after Super Micro began its CFO search amid scrutiny of its financial and accounting practices.

Bottom Line

Super Micro's preliminary numbers point to a sharp sequential jump in both revenue and margin tied to AI server demand, and the market's initial reaction, including gains for Dell, HPE and Nvidia, reflects optimism about the broader AI infrastructure buildout. But the figures are explicitly unaudited and subject to change, the company disclosed no backlog or order detail to support the guidance, and unresolved items, including prior cash-flow strain from inventory and an open board review tied to export-control matters, remain outstanding ahead of the full results due November 3.
